Mystic Island Voluntary Buyout Health Impact Assessment: Assessing Health Outcomes of Post-Sandy Decision-Making

Mystic Island HIA

The Mystic Island HIA considers the health impacts of hypothetical voluntary residential property buyout program scenarios for purposes of flood mitigation in Little Egg Harbor Township (LEHT), New Jersey for residents of Mystic Island, a community within the township that suffered significant damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The HIA was intended to assess potential health outcomes of different scenarios for voluntary buyouts in order to inform the town’s decision-making as to whether it should encourage homeowner participation in such programs.
